Movement Therapy: Working with Your Anatomy in Motion
Challenging Your Anatomy with Movement to Provoke Integrated Change
Anatomy in Motion (AiM) maps the three-dimensional movement of all the joints in the body to the phases of walking gait and uses drills to help you access all these movement possibilities. If you can’t move a particular joint to its natural full extent in three dimensions then you have to compensate elsewhere in your system to make up that function. That can either be by exaggerating one of the other dimensions in the same joint or by altering how a different joint or joints move. None of these options is ideal. After assessing the movement possibilities of your body, we use drills to give your body the opportunity to experience natural ways of moving that it has been avoiding. Integrated, whole-body movement is a powerful way of challenging your body to alter and reorganise global patterns of body structure/posture, body use and movement timing which can cause pain and make you vulnerable to injury. I find it an invaluable way of understanding and changing physical issues throughout the body and it is one of the main maps for how I navigate how to work with you. |
